Candoco Dance Company, the contemporary dance company of disabled and non-disabled dancers, offers weekly dance sessions for 14-25 year olds in three areas across London.

Led by Candoco dance artists, sessions range from technique and creative task work to performance skills and developing your own choreography. Young people will become familiar with inclusive practices and will have performance and excursion opportunities. All classes are suitable for disabled and non-disabled young people. The classes run during term time on Mondays at Sue Davies Studios in Elephant and Castle, on Tuesdays at The Place in Kings Cross and on Fridays at Aspire in Stanmore.

The youth group will perform a piece called Point to Point. The beginnings of Point to Point were inspired by the 07/08 CandoCo piece choreographed by Rafael Bonachela called And Who Shall go to The Ball. Working with the original tasks and rep as a starting point they have created a unique work that promises to show this group of dancers in a way that they have never been seen before. This piece is bold, energetic and promises to indulge your senses.

If you are interested in joining Candoco Youth Dance, email Sarah Blanc Youth Dance Manager at youth@candoco.co.uk

The performance of Point to Point will take place on the outdoor stage from 12.50 – 1pm

Union Dance and The London Lucumi Choir have joined forces in an exciting collaboration, creating a dance cantata from Juwon Ogungbe’s composed choral work Time and the Trickster’s Heart.

Ogungbe’s music displays The London Lucumi Choir’s special attributes, with the musical focus apportioned evenly between soloists, deeper voices, percussionists and higher voices.

Corrine Bougaard (Union’s Artistic Director) has created a vibrant dance to complement and highlight the Choir’s performance of the work that celebrates transformations and is inspired by Cuban Bata dances of the Santeria faith.

In the piece Eshu the Trickster Deity misleads three honoured female Deities, Yemoja, Oya and Oshun, who are regarded as perfect, in power, wisdom and goodness. Based on a parable from Yoruba mythology, it demystifies some aspects of the belief system as it is practised in the Santeria faith of Cuba and amongst the Yorubas of Nigeria and Republic of Benin in West Africa.

The Performance will take place on the Outdoor Stage from 3.15pm – 3.45pm and from 6.40pm – 7.10pm

The Theatre Royal Haymarket Youth Company is a dynamic group of young people made up 14 – 17 years old who have a passion for theatre.

The Company mirrors a professional theatre company and works together over a period of three months to rehearse, direct, produce and manage a production that is performed on stage at the Haymarket’s West End venue. These productions are supported by a team of West End professionals to ensure the production is of the finest quality. Following the success of their last sell out show the Youth Company are moving away from the theatre and setting up camp at FUSE for the day.

However despite being outside the theatre this doesn’t mean an end to performance, far from it. Throughout the day and all round the park the Company will be performing The Machine. If you have ever seen a dance flash mob then The Machine is the acting equivalent. In brief, it is a physical theatre exercise used in acting classes or rehearsals all round the world in order to build ensemble within in a group of performers and get people working, creating and thinking together quickly. It is great fun, very easy to do (you don’t need any experience of performing) and the number of people who can get involved is endless!

The Machine starts with one person creating a movement and a sound, once the first person has established their movement other performers are encouraged to join in until everyone one has become part of it. Once everyone has joined in the result is a group of performers working together to create a living moving machine with each performer working in tune with the others. The Machine itself can then become a mini physical theatre performance.

There is an opportunity for anyone who is interested to get involved in this acting flashmob. The Machine Workshop will be run by the Haymarket’s West End professionals, Blayne George and Alice Driver, showing people how it came about, how it works and then finally culminating in performing The Machine in the middle of the Royal Park! The aim is to get as many people as possible involved and with the current total standing at sixty participants I am sure you could smash this on the day.

The Machine workshop will take place in The Bubble from 5.15pm – 6pm. There’s no need to sign up just visit The Bubble and join the fun.

For more information please contact alice@trh.co.uk or simply turn up on the day at the workshop and get involved.

Tate Forum is a youth art initiative run at Tate Britain by young people, for young people. It creates a platform for a diverse group of young people to explore Tate Collection displays and exhibitions, work with contemporary artists, talk about art and cultural issues.

Tate Forum put on around eight events every year, specifically for young people aged 15-25yrs. The group is made up of a wide variety of backgrounds and interests. An artistic background is not needed. Their goal is to make Tate Britain a place that more young people want to visit, a place to create and a place contribute to visual culture. Tate Forum supports young people to realise their true potential, build confidence in their endeavour to pursue career options, education pathways and social and cultural experiences.

At FUSE, Tate Forum will run a series of small scale art activities on the theme of exchange, which merge music, visual arts to capture your responses to art and culture.

The Tate workshop will be running all day, no need to book a place, just drop in and see what’s happening.
